On Thursday, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off Taiwan’s northeastern county of Yilan, according to the island’s central weather administration. No immediate reports of damage have emerged.

The quake shook buildings in the capital, Taipei. According to the weather administration, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 9 km and struck just off Taiwan’s northeastern shore.

Authorities reported that subway services in Taipei continued at a reduced speed immediately after the quake. Taiwan, located near the junction of two tectonic plates, is prone to earthquakes.

In April, Taiwan experienced its largest earthquake in at least 25 years, which killed nine people and injured over 900. (Reporting by Yimou Lee; Editing by Christina Fincher).
