- PTA warns consumers about IMEI Patch and JV crack phones.
- PTA advises to buy phones from credible vendors with warranty.
- Avoid buying premium phones at suspiciously low prices.
Pakistan’s mobile sector has witnessed significant expansion lately. However, the steep prices of gadgets have led to a rise in the sale of IMEI Patch and JV crack phones, often offered at implausible rates.
In light of this concerning development, the PTA has issued a fresh public warning regarding fake mobile phones, encouraging consumers to exercise vigilance and opt for genuine products.
For consumer protection, the telecom regulator advises purchases be made exclusively from credible vendors and that the phones include a valid warranty. The PTA’s guidance includes checking for the PTA seal on the phone’s box and confirming the IMEI number’s authenticity.
The advisory highlights the importance of buying devices in their original packaging. Buyers should match the IMEI number on the box to that found in the phone’s settings, as each IMEI serves as a distinct identifier, according to the PTA.
Check Phone IMEI in Pakistan
To verify a phone’s IMEI number, you can access the PTA’s portal, which will reveal if the device is registered with the PTA.
Begin by navigating to the PTA IMEI Check portal and dispatch your IMEI number to 8484. Alternatively, the DVS application is available for download from the playstore to check the status of your phone.
The Telecom Authority further cautions against purchasing premium phones at suspiciously low prices, especially from vendors who do not offer warranties.
