The French maritime authority, Premar, announced on Sunday that a migrant died while attempting to cross the Channel from northern France to Britain. This marks the seventh such death since mid-July.
Premar said that the deceased person was found aboard an overcrowded boat after its passengers had issued a call for help. The authority highlighted a “new phenomenon” of people dying at sea not from drowning but from illness or in a crush.
