PTI-led opposition alliance announces nationwide protest on Friday

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led opposition alliance announced a nationwide protest on Friday demanding the release of ‘innocent’ prisoners, including party chairman Imran Khan.

After a meeting of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayen, an opposition alliance led by the PTI, former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser told the media that they would hold ‘peaceful’ demonstrations across the country on Friday.

He stated that the protests aim to address three key demands: ending sky-rocketing inflation, establishing peace, and releasing the PTI founder and all other political prisoners detained on ‘fabricated’ charges. “The incumbent federal government enjoys a fake mandate,” Qaiser added.

Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai asserted that Imran Khan is currently the ‘most popular’ leader in Pakistan.

Achakzai pledged to fight for the release of all political prisoners, including the PTI founder.

“The entire nation is requested to participate in the protests for this great cause,” he said, emphasizing their readiness to take every step necessary to pull Pakistan out of its crises.

Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Chairman Allama Raja Nasir Abbas mentioned that the government is considering invoking Article 6 against the PTI founder. “Imran Khan has the support of 99 percent of Pakistanis, and imposing Article 6 is an action against the entire nation,” Abbas said. He criticized the government for giving another chance to those who have consistently failed in the past.
