ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed has been re-arrested by Islamabad Police shortly after her release in an FIA case on Sunday.
Sanam Javed’s lawyer, Ali Ashfaq, confirmed that the capital police re-arrested the PTI activist following her discharge by the sessions court.
Sanam Javed was initially arrested under a case filed by the FIA under cybercrime laws, related to her activities on May 9, when she allegedly encouraged people to gather at the Corps Commander House.
Despite the court’s decision to release her, Islamabad Police detained her in connection with another case.
Ashfaq stated, “We handed over Sanam Javed to the police without resistance. This is how law-abiding people should behave, as we did.”
Earlier in the day, an Islamabad district and sessions court dismissed the case against PTI activist Sanam Javed, which was based on her tweets on the social media platform X.
Duty Magistrate Malik Imran delivered the reserved verdict regarding Sanam Javed’s remand and accepted the request from her lawyers to exclude her from the case.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had discharged Sanam Javed from a case in Gujranwala. A two-member bench, led by Justice Asjad Javed Gharal, heard her petition on Wednesday.
In her plea, Sanam Javed challenged the physical remand issued by the Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), arguing that she was being unfairly targeted in politically motivated cases.
She claimed that she was repeatedly arrested in new cases immediately after being released from others, asserting that the ongoing legal actions against her were politically driven and requested the court to dismiss the case.
The public prosecutor argued that Sanam Javed was implicated based on statements linking her to incidents of arson on May 9, which are under investigation. Despite these claims, the court ruled in favor of Sanam Javed and discharged her from the Gujranwala case.
