LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Ameer Sultan was “abducted” by unknown individuals in Lahore, a senior party leader stated on Sunday.
Sultan, who represents NA-110 in Jhang, was taken from his home on Sarwar Road in Punjab’s capital, according to PTI Lahore Secretary General Hafiz Zeeshan.
“Unknown men arrived at his house in two vehicles and abducted him last night,” the PTI leader claimed, adding that party members have felt “unsafe” following the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats.
The court’s ruling allows PTI to claim reserved seats, potentially making it the largest party in the National Assembly.
In response, SSP Cantt Awais Shafiq informed media that the police had not arrested the PTI MNA, nor had they received any complaints about his alleged abduction.
When asked why no complaint had been filed yet, Zeeshan said that the party was preparing the complaint and would submit it to the police station on Monday.
PTI’s senior leader Asad Qaiser issued a statement saying he had learned about the MNA’s abduction and questioned how a country could function where politicians’ loyalties are forcibly shifted.
“Law of the jungle prevails here; there’s no respect for the judiciary. There’s an open opposition to the court’s decisions,” the former NA speaker said.
Qaiser asked whether the government intended to govern “by force,” but emphasized that his party members would continue their struggle within the legal framework of the country.
“The time for condemnations is over; it’s time to resist,” he stated, urging that PTI’s MNAs, who need to submit forms showing their party affiliation following the Supreme Court’s order, be allowed to do so freely. “MNA Ameer Sultan should be released immediately,” he demanded.
