  • Ten Hag hails the new additions and their experience.

Manchester United has welcomed back Ruud van Nistelrooy to Old Trafford, this time as an assistant manager alongside Rene Hake, under the leadership of Erik ten Hag.

Van Nistelrooy, a prolific scorer with 150 goals during his tenure with Sir Alex Ferguson, and Hake have committed to two-year terms in line with Ten Hag’s contract extension.

In a shake-up of the coaching team, Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have exited the club, while Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher have been reassigned within the coaching hierarchy.

Van Nistelrooy comes from a successful stint as PSV Eindhoven’s manager, where he claimed the Dutch Cup and nearly won the Eredivisie. Hake, closely linked with Ten Hag, has been at the helm of Go Ahead Eagles, achieving a respectable league finish.

Ten Hag expressed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted that Rene and Ruud have agreed to join our project, adding a wealth of experience, knowledge and new energy to the staff. Now is a good time to refresh the coaching team as we look to build on the achievements of the past two years and push to the next level.”

Dan Ashworth, the sporting director, also commented on the appointments, saying, “Together with Erik, we are working to strengthen all areas of our men’s first team operations, and refreshing the coaching staff is an important part of that. It’s a particular pleasure to welcome Ruud back to the club where he enjoyed so much success as a player, and I know that he and Rene will help reinforce the winning mentality and high standards we are aiming for.”

Van der Gaag has parted ways with United to further his career as a head coach.
