ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) suspended the decisions of the Lahore High Court’s verdict and the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notifications about formation of the Election Tribunal.
A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa take up the appeal of the Election Commission of Pakistan to decide controversy over who should appoint tribunals to decide election disputes.
The ECP in its appeal argued that the establishment of election tribunals, falls under their jurisdiction.
During the hearing, ECP lawyer Sikandar Bashir said that Niaz Ullah Niazi, whose lawyer, had requested to be a party, the court had accepted the request to be a party.
The Chief Justice asked Salman Akram whether he objected to him. To this, Salman Akram replied, “I had not objected in my personal capacity”.
The Chief Justice said that the court has been scandalized a lot, now it is enough.
Jamal Khan Mandokhail said that the committee has put us in the bench, are we sitting here to be insulted, on which Niaz Ullah Niazi replied we have no objection to you.
Later, the court rejected Niaz Uullah Niazi’s objection on the bench and reserved the decision regarding the case.
The court suspended the verdict of the Lahore High Court regarding the formation of the Election Tribunal while pronouncing its decision after some time.
The court said in its order that immediately after the oath of the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, the Election Commission and the members should hold a meaningful consultation with the Chief Justice.

The court decision further states that the case is kept pending, there was no communication between the ECP and the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court. The Supreme Court left the matter to the consultation of the Chief Justice of the High Court and the ECP.
