The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast significant rainfall for Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and other regions within the next 24 hours.
Several areas across Pakistan are already experiencing rain and strong winds. Over the coming day, most regions are expected to face severe winds, thunderstorms, and substantial precipitation. Specific areas such as northeastern Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, K-P, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan may encounter gusty winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall, while other parts of the country will continue to experience hot and dry weather conditions.
Recently, Rawalpindi and nearby areas have seen their first pre-monsoon showers, raising concerns about monsoon-related floods in local water channels like Nullah Leh. The heavy rainfall on the night of June 17 has heightened flood preparation concerns, marking the start of the flood season, which runs from June 15 to August 15.
This downpour has led to significant inflows into Rawal, Simli, and Khanpur dams, essential water sources for Rawalpindi and Islamabad, thus easing worries about potential water shortages during the summer months.
