According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), significant rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and other parts of the country within the next 24 hours.
The PMD has reported that several regions across Pakistan have already begun experiencing rain and strong winds. Over the coming day, most areas are anticipated to encounter severe winds, thunderstorms, and substantial precipitation.
Specific regions such as northeastern Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, K-P, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience gusty winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall. Meanwhile, other parts of the country will continue to face hot and dry weather conditions. Recently, Rawalpindi and adjacent areas have witnessed their initial pre-monsoon showers, signaling potential risks of monsoon-related floods in local water channels like Nullah Leh.
The heavy rainfall on the night of June 17 has prompted concerns among authorities about flood preparations, as this marks the beginning of the flood season, which spans from June 15 to August 15. The downpour has resulted in significant inflows into Rawal, Simli, and Khanpur dams, crucial water sources for Rawalpindi and Islamabad, thereby alleviating concerns about potential water shortages during the summer months.
