Schengen visa fees increase – check here

Today brings a notable change for those travelling to Europe. Starting June 11, 2024, the price of obtaining a short-stay Schengen visa (type C) has increased by 12 percent, impacting all visitors to the Schengen Area, which includes 27 European countries.

New Schengen Visa Fees

As confirmed by the European Commission, the updated fees for a short-stay Schengen visa are now 90 euros for adults and 45 euros for children aged 6 to 11.

These adjustments were announced by the Republic of Slovenia in a press release on May 20, 2024, aligning with the European Commission’s decision to adjust visa fees globally.

The Schengen visa enables travellers to freely move across member countries for up to 90 days within 180 days, catering to tourists, business travellers, and visitors to friends or family in Europe.

The 12 percent fee hike aims to cover rising administrative expenses related to visa processing. The European Commission periodically reviews and adjusts these fees to ensure they cover issuance costs while remaining accessible.

Starting today, anyone planning Schengen visits should factor in the increased visa fees, which could notably impact families and frequent travellers due to the higher cumulative cost.

Travel agencies and tour operators advise clients to stay informed about the new fees and adjust their plans accordingly, with many updating service packages to reflect the increased visa expenses.
