Heatwave Alert: Lahore, Punjab Plains Brace for High Temperatures!

  • Lahore and the Punjab Plains are facing a heatwave.
  • PMD has issued warnings for Lahore and surrounding areas.
  • Maximum temperatures in Lahore may reach 43–46 °C during this heatwave.

Residents of Lahore and the plains of Punjab are urged to take precautions as a heatwave is expected to sweep through the region on Wednesday and Thursday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings, noting that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country while a shallow westerly wave affects northern areas.

The forecast predicts temperatures of 02 to 04 °C above normal daytime levels, particularly impacting Lahore and surrounding plains. Gusty winds and dust-raising conditions are anticipated in southern districts, while areas like Murree and Galyat may experience partly cloudy weather.

In Lahore, maximum temperatures are projected to range from 43–45 °C on Wednesday and 44–46 °C on Thursday. These soaring temperatures are part of a broader pattern of hot and dry weather that has gripped Lahore and much of the province over the past 24 hours.

Notably, Noorpur Thal, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bhakkar recorded the highest temperatures, hitting 47°C. Other areas like Okara, Kot Addu, Kasur, Karor (Layyah), and Jhang experienced maximum temperatures of 46 °C.

In Lahore specifically, the maximum temperature soared to 44 °C, with relative humidity in the evening registering at a low of 17 percent.

Given these extreme weather conditions, it is crucial for residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heat hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
