As of June 11, 2024, travelers to Europe will face a 12 percent increase in the cost of obtaining a short-stay Schengen visa (visa type C). This adjustment affects all visitors to the Schengen Area, which includes 27 European countries.
According to the European Commission, the new visa fees are now 90 euros for adults and 45 euros for children aged 6 to 11, as confirmed by a press release from the Republic of Slovenia on May 20, 2024. This increase reflects the European Commission’s decision to globally adjust visa fees to cover rising administrative costs.
The Schengen visa permits travelers to move freely within the member countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, making it a popular choice for tourists, business travelers, and those visiting friends or family in Europe.
The fee hike aims to address the increased costs of processing these visas, with the European Commission periodically reviewing and adjusting fees to ensure they remain manageable for travelers while covering issuance expenses.
Starting today, those planning to visit Schengen countries need to account for the higher visa fees, which could significantly impact families and frequent travelers due to the increased cumulative cost.
Travel agencies and tour operators are informing clients of the new fees and adjusting their service packages accordingly to reflect the higher visa expenses.
