LAHORE: PTI women leaders Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza remained in custody despite being granted bail by the court in the May 9 case. After her release from jail, Sanam was immediately arrested by Gujranwala police. During her transfer to another jail, she mentioned that her next detention would also be in Gujranwala. Meanwhile, Aliya Hamza couldn’t be released as the jail administration hadn’t received the court order; her release is expected tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, a special anti-terrorism court granted bail to both leaders in the May 9 case. The court heard their bail pleas concerning three cases related to the May 9 violence. Bail was approved in three cases, while interim bail was granted in the fourth case registered at Musa Khel Sargodha police station.
On April 17, the same court had remanded PTI activists Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza to seven days’ physical custody in a vandalism case. Despite the police’s request for a 30-day remand, the court decided on a shorter duration.
Before this incident, Sanam Javed had been arrested by the police in another case immediately after being granted bail by the Anti-Terrorism Court. It’s noteworthy that Sanam Javed is facing multiple cases, including the Zaman Town vandalism, PML-N house fire, and Race-course police station case, following the May 9 riots triggered by the arrest of the former prime minister and PTI founder from the Islamabad High Court premises.
