On Sunday, the Australian cricket squad encountered the Ugandan team for the first time, as both teams were accommodated at the same hotel in Port of Spain.
The teams, preparing for their initial T20 World Cup games, enjoyed a significant exchange.
In the course of this meeting, Mitchell Marsh, the Australian skipper, was presented with a Ugandan team jersey. He also took pictures with David Warner, Australia’s prominent batsman, donning the jersey.
The Australians interacted with the Ugandan players and autographed the jerseys.
“That was a really special moment,” Marsh expressed to the media in Barbados.
“It’s things like that – it’s not just about the cricket throughout these World Cups. It’s about opportunity and teams having earnt the right to be here,” he continued.
The Australian team is ready for their opening T20 World Cup game against Oman, scheduled for Thursday, June 6, in Barbados.
Yet, their team isn’t fully assembled, with only nine players available for the preliminary matches.
Following the IPL’s end, players like Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Marcus Stoinis are absent. Nonetheless, Australia managed a win with just nine of their T20 World Cup squad members in a warm-up game against Namibia on May 28.
However, they faced defeat at the hands of the West Indies in their subsequent practice match on May 30.
