The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that Karachi will experience extremely hot and humid weather over the next 24 hours.
The city is currently enduring a heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach between 40°C and 42°C today, and humidity at 75%.
High Temperatures and Humidity Levels
Winds from the west are blowing at 18 kilometres per hour, with the heatwave forecast to last until June 1. The minimum temperature recorded in the last 24 hours was 29 °C.
Karachi’s Recent Weather Trends
On Thursday, temperatures soared to 39.5°C with 63% humidity, following the hottest day of the year on Wednesday, when the mercury hit 41.5°C. These conditions highlight the severity of the ongoing heatwave.
Highest temperature recorded in Karachi
Karachi’s highest-ever temperature was 48°C, recorded on May 9, 1938. While today’s temperatures are not expected to reach this historic peak, the current heatwave remains a significant concern.
Heatwave Warning Issued
The PMD has issued a warning for extremely hot and humid conditions across southern Pakistan over the next two days, attributed to the prevalence of continental air over most regions.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the severe heat.
