Pakistan Railways has recently implemented significant reductions in train fares across all classes, effective immediately. These fare adjustments cover journeys ranging from one to 200 kilometers, particularly benefiting short-distance commuters by making rail travel more cost-effective.
Notably, the economy and AC classes have witnessed the most substantial fare reductions. According to railway officials, certain routes have seen economy class fares drop by up to 54 percent. For instance, the fare for economy class travelers on the Lahore to Rawalpindi route has decreased from Rs 250 to just Rs 100. Similarly, the Khyber Mail route, spanning distances from 1km to 130km, now offers fares reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 100.
Passengers traveling in AC class compartments have also benefited from fare cuts of up to 40 percent across different routes. This reduction in fares is seen as a positive development for both regular commuters and occasional travelers, making rail travel a more affordable choice.
The Railways Department emphasizes that this fare adjustment initiative aims to pass on the benefits of reduced fuel costs to the public. The new fares came into effect on Tuesday, as confirmed by railway authorities in Lahore. It is anticipated that these changes will enhance the appeal of rail travel and increase its competitiveness within the transportation sector.
