LHC orders Punjab govt to appoint judges in subordinate courts in 3 weeks

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought a progress report about appointment of judges in subordinate court and ordered government to complete the process in three weeks.

Senior Minister of Punjab Marriyam Aurangzeb, Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rahman and other members of the committee for appointing judges in Punjab appeared in the court.

Marriyam Aurangzeb told the court that the Punjab government has formed a committee and you will appoint a panel of judges from it.

The Chief Justice said that where it is written in the law that the Chief Justice will give a panel of judges to the government and you(Marriyam) should not make illegal demands from him.

Chief Justice of Lahore High Court said that people are shouting to make decisions and added that  decisions will be made only when judges are appointed.

While talking to the media, Marriyam Aurangzeb said that a committee was formed for the appointment of judges, which includes the Law Minister, and requested that they talk in the chamber, the court has given time till Monday, and it is hoped that there will be a useful hearing.
