- Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has launched a pilot project for free WiFi access in Lahore.
- Free WiFi will be available in key public areas like educational institutions, airports, and bus stands.
- Users can connect to the service by selecting “CM Maryam Nawaz Free WiFi” in their WiFi settings.
In a recent announcement, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, unveiled a pilot project aimed at providing free WiFi access across 50 locations in Lahore. Spearheaded by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), this initiative marks a strategic move to enhance connectivity and internet accessibility throughout the city.
The decision to reintroduce free WiFi services echoes a previous effort initiated by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in 2013. However, this service was discontinued during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government due to unresolved financial obligations.
Assuming responsibility for this initiative, the Punjab Information Technology Board has taken over the management of the service from the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL). Efforts are underway to modernize and improve the existing infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity and a reliable internet experience.

Chief Minister Sharif expressed her enthusiasm for the project on her social media account, stating, “Free WiFi started at the following 50 spots in Lahore. The rest of Lahore is being done, too. Alhamdulillah! We promise, we deliver.”
The primary focus of this initiative is on key public areas such as educational institutions, airports, railway stations, and bus stands. Over time, the service will expand to cover a total of 516 locations across Lahore.

This initiative not only aligns with the government’s commitment to advancing technological infrastructure but also underscores its dedication to enhancing the quality of life for the people of Punjab by promoting digital inclusion and connectivity.
