The Pakistani government is dynamically proceeding advantages to support girls’ education, with the latest effort involving the provision of 20 buses to provide free transportation services to female students and teachers in the capital city of Islamabad.
In collaboration with the district administration, the Federal Ministry of Education has announced plans to introduce a fleet of 20 buses in the federal capital. These pink-themed buses will be dedicated solely to offering free transportation to female students and teachers, catering to both urban and rural areas within the city.
The decision stems from the limited transportation options available, particularly for women and girls.
As of 2024, around 30 percent of the total 385 buses are currently non-operational due to various reasons. To address this issue, the ministry intends to refurbish and reintroduce these buses into service by mid-June.
Once the required developments are completed, these buses will serve as a means of free transportation for female teachers and students, aiming to alleviate their transportation challenges.
