Cement Sales in Pakistan Declined in April 2024

The latest data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) reveals a slight downturn in cement dispatches during April 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. Total cement dispatches for April 2024 amounted to 2.943 million tons, slightly lower than the 2.951 million tons recorded in April 2023.

Local cement dispatches in April 2024 stood at 2.328 million tons, marking a notable decline of 7.99 percent from the 2.531 million tons reported in April 2023. However, exports surged by 45.96 percent, with volumes increasing from 420,857 tons in April 2023 to 614,264 tons in April 2024.

North-based mills dispatched 2.088 million tons of cement in April 2024, reflecting a decrease of 4.79 percent compared to April 2023. Conversely, south-based mills dispatched 854,911 tons of cement in April 2024, indicating a 12.71 percent increase from April 2023.

Domestic dispatches from north-based mills totaled 1.942 million tons in April 2024, down by 7.91 percent from April 2023. South-based mills dispatched 386,783 tons domestically in April 2024, representing an 8.36 percent decrease from April 2023.

Exports from north-based mills saw a significant increase of 73.11 percent, rising from 84,418 tons in April 2023 to 146,136 tons in April 2024. Similarly, exports from south-based mills surged by 39.14 percent, reaching 468,128 tons in April 2024 compared to 336,439 tons in April 2023.

For the first ten months of the current fiscal year, total cement dispatches, including domestic and exports, amounted to 37.447 million tons, marking a 2.45 percent increase from the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Domestic dispatches during this period totaled 31.732 million tons, down by 4.12 percent from the same period last year, while exports exhibited robust growth of 65.35 percent, reaching 5.715 million tons compared to 3.457 million tons in the same period last fiscal year.

The APCMA spokesperson emphasized the need for government measures in the upcoming budget to stimulate construction activities in the country. He emphasized the importance of increasing capacity utilization to achieve economies of scale and reduce operational costs, ultimately benefiting the end consumer.
