Both public and private schools throughout Punjab shut down for over two months annually during summer vacations to shield students from extreme heat.
With the temperature reaching 33 degrees Celsius in Lahore and other cities, it is expected to climb higher in the coming days. According to forecasts, temperatures may soar to 39°C in May 2024 and exceed 40°C in June 2024.
Such high temperatures pose risks like heatstroke and dehydration, endangering students’ lives. Hence, authorities opt to close schools province-wide for more than two months.
Last year, summer vacations began on June 6 and lasted until August 20, 2023. All schools resumed educational activities on August 21.
Punjab Summer Vacations 2024
Summer vacations for 2024 are anticipated to commence on June 7 (Friday), with schools set to resume on August 19 (Monday). Nevertheless, the education department will make a definitive decision regarding the summer vacations for 2024 after evaluating all factors.
