KARACHI: There has been a notable reduction in the wholesale price of flour in Karachi, bringing relief to the general public.

The price per kilogram of flour has decreased by Rs16 in the city’s wholesale market. Currently, flour is being sold at Rs106 per kilogram, following a decrease in the price of wheat per kilogram by Rs5 to Rs87.

In the Jodia Bazaar, a prominent wholesale market, a 50-kilogram sack of flour is being retailed at Rs5,300. Despite this decline in prices, the Karachi commissioner has not yet issued an updated price list, although previously, the commissioner had set the per kilogram rate of flour at Rs123 for Ramadan.

Recently, on March 23, a shopkeeper in Karachi’s Jodia Bazaar faced penalties for selling flour at a price lower than the official rate.

The Karachi Wholesaler Grocers Group (KWGG) expressed dissatisfaction over the fines imposed on the retailer, and they threatened to organize a shutter-down strike in protest against what they perceive as injustice.

During a visit to the market, a team from the Deputy Commissioner’s office inspected prices and food items being sold at various shops in Jodia Bazaar. During the inspection, it was discovered that a retailer was selling flour at a lower price, prompting further scrutiny.
