ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court and other seven judges received letters containing ‘anthrax’ on Tuesday.
Sources within the court revealed that one of these letters, when opened by a judge’s staff, was found to contain an unknown powder. Prompt action followed, with experts from the Islamabad Police swiftly arriving at the High Court premises to assess the situation.
The investigation primarily focuses on identifying the substance and evaluating any potential threat it poses. Additionally, it has been disclosed that these letters also contain menacing symbols.
Interestingly, the sender, identified only as Resham, provided no specific address.
Responding proactively, the Islamabad High Court has taken measures to address the situation by summoning senior police officials. Their objective is to ensure ongoing updates and coordinate efforts aimed at safeguarding the judiciary.
Regarding anthrax, its severe complications include the body’s impaired ability to combat infection, leading to damage across multiple organ systems (sepsis). It can also result in inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, causing extensive bleeding (hemorrhagic meningitis) and, potentially, death.
