How to add captions and subtitles to Instagram Reels

Instagram, a popular social media platform owned by Meta, is widely used for sharing photos and has been constantly updated with new features to enhance user experience.

Initially focused on photos, Instagram has evolved into a platform for short videos, and users now even upload longer videos, similar to YouTube, aiming to attract a broader audience.

Recently, Instagram introduced a caption feature to automatically generate captions for videos, helping users better understand the content, especially in longer videos with detailed information.

Here’s how to enable auto-generated captions for Reels on Instagram:

  1. Make sure your Instagram app is up-to-date by checking for updates in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Open the Instagram app on your device.
  3. Tap on the Reels tab next to the post icon at the bottom.
  4. Play a random Reel and tap on the three dots on the side.
  5. A control panel will appear, tap on “Manage captions” above the QR code option.
  6. Turn on “Captions” to enable auto-generated captions for Instagram Reels.

Note that currently, auto-generated captions are available only in English, and other languages may be added in the future.
