  • Babar Azam was given a valuable advice by his father.
  • Babar was reappointed as white-ball cricket skipper.
  • Babar has led Pakistan in five international tournamnets.

Azam Siddiqui, Babar Azam’s father, has advised his son to show respect towards Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim. These two players recently ended their retirement to play for Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Babar, who is 29 years old, was reinstated as Pakistan’s captain for white-ball cricket, a decision that brought joy to his father.

He expressed his feelings on his official Instagram account, stating: “The most important thing is that the people of the authority gave honour and respect again.

“Now they are echoes that the team will not be united but I have said to Babar to forget the past. Amir and Imad are older than and senior to you, meet them with respect and honour their opinion.

Babar is set to captain the team in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is, while Shan Masood will remain the captain for Test cricket.

“Babar Azam appointed as white-ball captain,” was the announcement made by the PCB on X, previously known as Twitter.

“Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.”

Babar had a meeting with the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, to discuss the strategy for the T20 World Cup. Following this meeting, the current Interior Minister decided to hand over the team’s leadership to him.

After the ICC World Cup 2023 ended, Babar was stripped of his captaincy across all formats. Shaheen Shah Afridi was given the leadership for the shorter format and Shan Masood was made the Test captain. However, no announcement was made regarding the captaincy for ODIs.

Shaheen had the opportunity to lead the team in a T20I series against New Zealand in January 2023. Unfortunately, the Green Shirts lost the five-match series 1-4, which raised questions about Shaheen’s leadership skills.

It’s noteworthy that Babar Azam has led Pakistan in five international tournaments so far — T20 World Cup 2021 and 2022, Asia Cup 2022 and 2023, and World Cup 2023. Despite his efforts, the Green Shirts have not been able to secure any ICC or Asia Cup titles under his leadership.
