- FBR introduced the Tajir Dost Scheme 2024 to include small traders in the tax system.
- Non-registration may lead to automatic registration by the Inland Revenue Commissioner.
- The scheme aims to formalize businesses and increase tax revenue for economic growth.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Islamabad has unveiled the Tajir Dost Scheme 2024, aiming to bring small traders and shopkeepers into the tax net. This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of boosting revenue generation and formalizing businesses across the country.
Under the scheme, all traders and shopkeepers operating from fixed business premises such as shops, stores, warehouses, offices, or similar locations within civil limits, including cantonments, are required to register. The registration process for retailers kicks off on April 1, 2024.
There are three primary methods for registration under the Tajir Dost Scheme:
Tajir Dost App FBR (Tax Asaan App)
Traders and shopkeepers can apply for registration through the Tax Asaan app, available on both Android and iOS platforms.
FBR’s Portal
Registration is also possible via the Federal Board of Revenue’s online portal.
FBR’s Tax Facilitation Centers
Those seeking registration can visit FBR’s Tax Facilitation Centers. The deadline for registration under the scheme is April 30.
Failure to apply for registration by eligible individuals will result in the Commissioner of Inland Revenue registering them under the scheme, as stated in the notification.
The second part of the Special Revenue Order (SRO) pertains to the payment of the minimum advance tax, which takes effect on July 1, 2024. Key points in this aspect include:
- Monthly advance tax payments are mandatory, with the amount determined according to prescribed computations.
- The minimum tax for income from businesses covered under the scheme is set as the advance tax paid.
- A minimum advance tax of Rs. 1,200 per annum applies in cases where the computed advance tax is zero, subject to specific exemptions.
- A reduction of 25 percent in advance tax is applicable if the taxpayer opts to pay the remaining advance tax in a lump sum for the relevant tax year.
