ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reconstituted the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) within the federal cabinet.
The official announcement specifies that Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has been appointed as its chairman. The committee will be led by the finance minister along with four other ministers overseeing economic affairs, commerce, power, petroleum, and planning, development, and special initiatives.
Notably, prior to this restructuring, the Prime Minister himself held the chairmanship of the ECC. Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif has established a steering committee aimed at reforming and modernizing the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR). He will chair this 10-member committee, comprising Federal Ministers of Finance, Industry, Commerce and Production, and Law.
The Finance Division will provide administrative support to the Steering Committee, tasked with supervising the FBR reform agenda.
Before these initiatives, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the imperative of executing all projects crucial for national economic stability. He stressed the importance of consulting stakeholders from various sectors of the economy to ensure effective implementation of the plan.
