KARACHI: Karachi’s commissioner Saleem Rajput has imposed fines on 137 individuals involved in price gouging in the city.
This crackdown was initiated in preparation for the upcoming month of Ramazan. Acting on the directives of Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah, the operation covered various districts including east, west, south, Malir, Kemari, and Korangi.
The fines amounted to Rs800,000 in total. Rajput expressed determination to sustain this campaign against profiteering, cautioning shopkeepers to adhere to government-mandated prices for goods.
In other news, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene in Peshawar on March 11th for the sighting of the Ramazan moon.
Chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the meeting will commence after the Asr prayers. Additionally, zonal committee meetings will be held in different areas to receive and evaluate reports of moon sighting. If the crescent moon is sighted, Ramazan will commence on March 12th.
