In Karachi, both government and private offices, along with schools, will operate for a half-day on Friday (March 1), as stated by the newly-elected Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who also declared a rain emergency in the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has advised that a potent westerly wave is expected to reach western regions by February 29, possibly affecting most areas of the country from March 1st to March 2nd.

Due to this weather system, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Khairpur, and Mirpurkhas on February 29th and March 1st.

Additionally, isolated hailstorms are also anticipated during this period, as per the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s advisory.

The chief minister chaired a meeting to assess the potential impact of rains, leading to the decision to implement a half-day schedule.

During the meeting, DG PDMA Salman Shah stated that Karachi is projected to experience rainfall ranging from 16 to 32 mm over a span of 12 hours on March 1st.

The chief minister has directed all relevant authorities to take precautionary measures to prevent any adverse incidents.
