Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE to Enforce Tough Penalties for Reckless Driving

  • Ras Al Khaimah Police will implement harsher penalties for reckless driving starting March 1st.
  • Penalties include vehicle impoundment and fees ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh20,000.
  • The aim is to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations.

Beginning March 1, Ras Al Khaimah Police will clamp down on reckless driving with harsh penalties, such as vehicle impoundment. Cars involved in road racing will be seized for three months with a Dh10,000 release fee, while those endangering lives in tourist areas will face a four-month impoundment and the same release fee. These actions stem from the RAK Executive Council’s move to strengthen penalties for traffic violations.

Additional violations and penalties encompass unauthorized processions, racing without a license plate, vehicle modifications, and environmentally or tourist area-damaging driving. Impoundment periods range from 30 to 120 days, with release fees ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh20,000. Repeat violations within a year result in heightened penalties.

The regulations also cover issues like abandoned vehicles and unauthorized vehicle displays for sale. Maj. Gen. Al Nuaimi, RAK Police Chief, stressed the readiness of the police to enforce the regulations and highlighted ongoing efforts to educate motorists through social media platforms.
