Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has declared the appointment of IG Jail Munawar Ali Shah null and void.

In the Sindh High Court, a hearing was held on the petition filed against the appointment of IG Prisons Munawar Shah, in which the petitioner took the stand that the Sindh government had given temporary charge of IG Prisons to Munawar Ali Shah last year, which was made permanent on November 1, senior officers from the current IG Jail are also present and this is a violation of their rights.

Moreover, during the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer said that the post of IG Jails is of 21st grade and Munawar Ali Shah is a 20th grade officer.

In this regard, the court accepted the position of the petitioner and declared the notification of the appointment of IG Prisons Munawar Ali Shah void.

Earlier, SHC has introduced the system of recording the statements of under-trial prisoners through video link.

This system was introduced by Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi, under the new system the statements of the under-trial prisoners will be recorded through a video link.

According to the declaration of the Sindh High Court, recording the statements through video link will save the time and transport costs of the police, and lawyers, and also improve the security situation.
