Imran Khan likely to appeal against conviction in three cases

ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to file appeals against his convictions in three cases tomorrow.

The legal counsel for Imran Khan, Salman Safdar, will reportedly petition the court regarding the convictions in the Toshakhana, cipher, and Nikah cases.

It is worth noting that Imran Khan was convicted in three significant cases, namely the Toshakhana, cipher, and Nikah cases, prior to the 2024 general elections.

In the Toshakhana case, an accountability court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to a 14-year prison term and disqualified Khan from holding any public office for 10 years. Furthermore, the couple was fined Rs1.573 billion.

Regarding the Nikah case, an Islamabad court sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to seven years in prison each for their marriage during the latter’s Iddat period, stating that their marriage was conducted illegally before the prescribed 90-day period following Bushra Bibi’s divorce.

In the Cipher case, a special court sentenced Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to 10 years in jail each for distorting diplomatic cipher information. Both PTI leaders were accused of conspiring to misuse the contents of the cipher for illicit purposes.

These impending appeals indicate Khan’s efforts to challenge his convictions in these cases through legal channels.
