KARACHI: Sindh President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Haleem Adil Sheikh has been released from Central Jail Karachi after spending more than five months in detention due to various cases related to the May 9 riots and land acquisition issues.

The release order for the PTI Sindh chief was issued after he secured bail in numerous cases from different courts.

Haleem Adil Sheikh was apprehended on August 30, 2023, outside the Sindh High Court (SHC) as he had appeared seeking bail to forestall arrest in the aftermath of the May 9 riots.

During his release, PTI supporters were gathered outside the Central Jail Karachi. The PTI Sindh Spokesman confirmed that Haleem Adil Sheikh had obtained bail in all 40 cases registered against him in various police stations, involving charges related to land disputes and involvement in the May 9 riots.

Despite being incarcerated, Haleem Adil Sheikh contested the elections from NA-238 and secured the runner-up position with 36,875 votes.

The seat was won by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s Sadiq Iftikhar, who garnered 54,884 votes.

It is worth noting that several senior PTI leaders, including former lawmakers, have faced legal action across the country for their alleged involvement in arson and violence during protests against the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.

Earlier, on January 31, a local court in Karachi directed the release of Haleem Adil Sheikh in cases related to the May 9 riots, where military installations were targeted following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The court instructed the PTI leader to submit surety bonds of Rs200,000.
