Heavy snowfall hits last village Askole Pakistan, residents delight in winter scenery

Askole, a picturesque village nestled in the heart of the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan, is currently experiencing a spell of snowfall. The temperature hovers at a chilly -2°C, with a bone-chilling RealFeel® of -10°C, further intensified by strong southwest winds blowing at 27 km/h, with gusts reaching 29 km/h.

The sky above Askole is predominantly covered with clouds, indicative of the ongoing snowfall. Despite the wintry conditions, the air quality is reported to be fair, offering some respite amidst the falling snowflakes.

Looking ahead, the snowfall is expected to continue from Sunday afternoon into the evening, with accumulations totaling between 1 to 3 cm. The Wintercast® predicts a six-hour duration of snow, lasting from Sunday afternoon through the evening hours.

The hourly forecast indicates a gradual decrease in temperatures throughout the day, with precipitation probabilities ranging from 11% to 60% as the snowfall progresses. By late evening, temperatures are expected to dip further, potentially reaching -3°C.

Today’s forecast suggests considerable clouds with intermittent snow showers, leading to a light accumulation of snow ranging from a coating to 1 cm. This weather pattern marks a significant shift in Askole’s landscape, covering the terrain in a blanket of pristine white snow.

Despite the enchanting scenery brought by the snowfall, residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution while traveling, particularly on slippery roads and pathways. Extreme levels of dust and dander may exacerbate respiratory conditions, while outdoor activities such as fishing and lawn mowing are hindered by the wintry weather conditions.
