ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan has convened a meeting tomorrow to discuss law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Caretaker Interior Minister, Interior Secretary, Chief Secretaries and Inspectors General of both provinces as well as representatives of intelligence agencies have been invited to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, the ECP said that the re-printing of ballot papers in some constituencies will be started after completion of regular printing of ballot papers.
This was decided by Election Commission of Pakistan at a meeting in Islamabad today.
The Commission said re-printing of ballot papers depends on the availability of special security paper as well as capacity of the printing press.
The meeting told that the commission would have no option except to postpone election in such constituencies if special security paper is not available in required quantity.
On the other hand, Election Commission of Pakistan has delegated first-class magistrate powers to the Presiding Officers at polling stations to ensure peaceful conduct of general elections on 8th of next month.
According to the spokesman of ECP, all Presiding Officers will have the powers of magistrate from February 7 to 9 in the upcoming general elections on February 8.
The spokesman said Presiding Officers will be able to conduct trials on the spot besides powers to proceed under Sections 169, 171 and 174 of the Election Act.
He said the ECP has already granted the powers of a first-class magistrate to District Returning Officers and Returning Officers to ensure smooth electoral process.
These powers can be utilized by ROs and DROs until official announcement of final results of general elections.
