Snowfall and rain forecasted for Islamabad and Murree

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts a welcome change in the weather for Islamabad and Murree. Deputy Director Irfan Vark mentioned that rain is expected in Islamabad, providing relief from the extended dry winter. Additionally, the scenic hills of Murree are anticipated to see snowfall in the next two days, bringing hope to areas facing dry conditions.

On the other hand, Lahore is currently in the midst of an unusually dry winter with heightened cold and reduced smog. The plains of Punjab, including Lahore, are grappling with the adverse effects of this dry spell, leading to foggy conditions impacting visibility.

With temperatures dropping to a chilly 6 degrees Celsius, disruptions like the closure of the Motorway due to dense fog have been noted. Moreover, the dry cold weather is contributing to colds and chest infections among residents.

In Swat, a prolonged drought has resulted in a concerning drop in the water table, impacting natural springs and drainage systems. Climate change has worsened the situation, causing severe drought conditions negatively affecting agriculture.

The absence of timely rainfall poses significant risks to crops, resulting in damage to standing crops and gardens. The water table has fallen to a critical 120 feet, signifying an urgent situation that demands immediate attention.
