Every person living in Dubai, whether a UAE citizen or a resident, must have a valid driving license to drive any vehicle. Driving without a license can result in significant fines. If your license is expired, the traffic department may also impose fines. Residents who are 21 years and older can apply for a driving license in Dubai, following the guidelines provided by the RTA.
Documents Required for License Renewal in Dubai
For customers younger than 21 years old
Original valid Emirates ID.
For customers 21 years and above
Original valid Emirates ID
Eye test according to the required category.
Dubai Driving License Renewal Fee December 2023 Update
As per the RTA, a late fee of 10 AED is charged monthly for license renewals, capped at a maximum of 500 AED. If your license has been expired for over 10 years, you need to pay the renewal fees and take an evaluation test.
For licenses expired more than a decade ago, the evaluation test service fee includes:
200 AED for opening a training file
100 AED for the learning application
50 AED for the handbook manual
200 AED for the RTA test
500 AED as a late fee for renewing the license
300 AED for the driving license renewal
Plus, 20 AED for Knowledge and Innovation fees.
