Punjab’s interim government announced new timings for schools as extreme weather conditions continue in the region.
The School Education Department has officially extended the adjusted timings for all schools in response to the ongoing cold wave in Lahore and parts of Punjab.
According to the latest notification, school classes will maintain a 9:30 a.m. start time until January 31, 2024. This decision is in line with the commitment of the Naqvi-led government to avoid bringing forward winter holidays in educational institutions.

Due to the delayed start of school classes, educational operations will persist while prioritizing the well-being of students in the harsh cold conditions.
Despite the strong cold wave affecting Punjab, KP, Kashmir, and Balochistan, the Punjab government has opted not to prolong the holidays.

However, not everyone is pleased with the decision to reopen schools, considering the cold weather and deteriorating air quality.
Previously, parents had requested the government extend winter holidays due to the ongoing cold wave and below-average temperatures.
