Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi indicted in Iddat case

RAWALPINDI: A local court on Tuesday indicted founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister ousted in April 2022, and Bushra Bibi denied all allegations in the case, which was filed by Bushra’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, the previous month. The trial officially began in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah presided over the hearing and summoned witnesses for the next session.

During the court proceedings held in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, the charges were read aloud in presence of Imran Khan. However, his wife was absent because of her sudden illness causing displeasure to the judge.

The marriage in question took place in February 2018 in Lahore, where only close relatives and friends attended the ceremony. Notably, Imran Khan’s sisters were not present. Mufti Saeed conducted the nikah in the presence of witnesses, former PTI leader Awn Chaudhary, and former SAPM Zulfi Bukhari.

Khawar Maneka, Bushra Bibi’s former husband, who initiated the legal proceedings, claimed last year that the marriage was unlawful and violated Sharia laws.

The accusations against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi included allegations of marrying within the three-month “iddat period” following a divorce, along with charges of fornication.
