Weather Department Warns of Dense smog in Coming Days

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that due to stable weather, most parts of the country can expect cold and dry conditions. In the upcoming week, very cold weather is anticipated in the plains of Punjab. Dense fog is likely in certain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, with frost expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region (including Islamabad), and Kashmir.

Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience light rain (with light snowfall over the mountains) on January 13th, 16th, and 17th. It’s important to note some impacts and advice:

  • Rainfed areas may face water stress, so the public is advised to use water wisely.
  • Due to fog, daytime temperatures in plain areas might be 4 to 6 degrees Celsius below normal.
  • Farmers should take care of their crops and keep livestock in warm places due to the prevailing cold.
  • Travelers are urged to be extra cautious during foggy days.

Additionally, the Met Department clarified that rumors on social media about snowfall in Punjab plains are false, and the public is urged to disregard fake news.
