Asia Cup 2025: ICC rejects demand to remove Andy Pycroft

Asia Cup

LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected the demand to remove match referee Andy Pycroft.

According to sources, Pycroft may only be replaced in matches involving Pakistan. In such cases, Richie Richardson is likely to take his place.

The ICC has formally informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of this decision.

On the other hand, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is attempting to mediate after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) called for the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft following the contentious India-Pakistan encounter in the Asia Cup.

The PCB has taken a firm stance, stating that Pakistan will refuse to play any remaining matches unless Pycroft is replaced. This demand comes amid strong objections from Pakistan regarding the referee’s conduct during the high-profile match.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the ACC is proposing a compromise solution. One option under consideration is to restrict Pycroft’s officiating duties exclusively to matches not involving Pakistan, with Richie Richardson potentially stepping in as referee for Pakistan’s games.
