Small AI robot ‘kidnaps’ large robots in Shanghai robotics showroom: Watch

Shanghai robotics showroom
  • An incident at Shanghai robotics showroom captured online attention.
  • Footage shows a small robot communicating with larger robots.
  • The smaller robot convinced 12 robots to follow it out.

A peculiar incident at a Shanghai robotics showroom has captured widespread attention on Chinese social media.

Surveillance footage from August, recently made public, shows a small robot entering the Shanghai robotics showroom at night and initiating a conversation with larger robots. The dialogue resulted in the smaller robot convincing 12 robots to follow it out of the showroom, a sequence both amusing and unsettling.

“Are you working overtime?” the smaller robot asks one of the larger machines.

“I never get off work,” the robot replies.

“So you’re not going home?”

“I don’t have a home.”

“Then come home with me,” the small robot says, leading the larger robots out.

Have a look at the video that captured the whole incident:

Initially dismissed as a staged prank, the event was later confirmed as genuine by both companies involved. On November 11, a spokesperson from the Hangzhou company behind the small robot, Erbai, confirmed its involvement. The Shanghai manufacturer admitted that Erbai accessed their robots’ internal protocols and persuaded them to leave autonomously.

The Hangzhou firm revealed the event was a controlled test, with Shanghai agreeing to allow access. However, “unexpectedly, it really did” manage to persuade the robots to leave.

While amusing, the incident raised serious concerns. “This is not a time to laugh. This is a serious security issue,” commented one user.

  • They performed inside the Kidd Mine in Timmins, Ontario.

A band from Ontario, Canada, has set a unique Guinness World Record by performing the deepest concert underground. The group, known as Miners & Sons, played their set 8,086 feet and 11.31 inches below sea level inside the Kidd Mine in Timmins, Ontario.

The record-breaking performance surpassed the previous record of 6,213 feet and 3.05 inches, achieved by the Shaft Bottom Boys at Vale’s Creighton Mine in Sudbury, Ontario, in 2020.

“This mine has spent 68 years taking rock out of that place, and then spent one day bringing it back,” joked percussionist Norm Dwyer in an interview with MyTimminsNow, referring to the unusual use of the mine as a concert venue.

The event marked a historic moment for both the band and the Kidd Mine, which is among the deepest operational mines in the world. Miners & Sons chose the location not only to claim the record but to highlight the legacy of mining in Timmins and the unique acoustics of underground venues.

With their record-breaking performance, Miners & Sons have solidified their place in history, bringing attention to the cultural potential of unconventional settings for music.

Indian filmmaker slams recent Bollywood films, Calls them boring

Bollywood films
  • R. Balki voiced strong opinions about recent Bollywood films.
  • Balki criticized the success of many recent box office hits.
  • He attributed these films’ success to aggressive marketing strategies.

Renowned filmmaker R. Balki, known for acclaimed films like Pad Man, Paa, and Cheeni Kum, has voiced strong opinions about the state of recent Bollywood films. Speaking at an event at MIT World Peace University in Pune, Balki criticized the success of many recent box office hits, calling them the “worst films” of the past few years.

“I’m just saying, not only from an intellectual or an artistic point of view but also from the old entertainment, ‘masala, paisa vasool’ kind of a feel. Also, they’re damn boring,” he remarked.

Drawing comparisons with the classic films of Manmohan Desai, Balki highlighted the enduring appeal of movies like Amar Akbar Anthony and Naseeb, which, he noted, were “fun to watch.” He lamented that the charm and entertainment value of those classics have been lost in today’s blockbusters.

Balki attributed the success of these films to aggressive marketing strategies rather than quality. “It is the marketing that drives people into the theaters to believe something is good which actually is not. By the time people believe it’s bad, the film has made its money,” he explained.

He also touched on audience psychology, stating, “Sometimes people don’t want to believe that a film is bad after watching it… You will want to say, ‘I was not that foolish. Oh, it was… it was fun.’”

Balki’s last directorial venture was Ghoomer (2023), starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher.

AR Rahman and wife Saira Banu’s lawyer decline link of separation with Mohini Dey

AR Rahman
  • AR Rahman and his wife shocked fans by announcing their separation.
  • On the same day, his bassist Mohini Dey also announced her divorce.
  • This led to online speculation about a link between the two events.

Renowned music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu shocked fans on Tuesday evening by announcing their decision to separate after nearly three decades of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in 1995 and share three children, described their decision as arising from “pain and agony” in their relationship.

The announcement coincided with bassist Mohini Dey also declaring the end of her marriage, leading to online speculation about a possible link between the two events.

However, Vandana Shah, the couple’s legal representative, dismissed the rumors in an interview with Republic TV, stating, “Not at all. There is no link at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision on their own.”

Shah described the separation as “amicable,” emphasizing, “When a marriage ends, it is a painful decision. No one is happy when a marriage ends. Divorce is not an occasion to be celebrated. Saira has been through her ups and downs in this marriage.” While she refrained from revealing specific reasons for the split, she highlighted that both Rahman and Banu were committed to moving forward positively, whether together or apart.

Their last public appearance together was at Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani’s wedding, which Shah confirmed was genuine, not a “marriage sham.” Hours after the announcement, Rahman shared an emotional note on X, addressing the separation.

Pakistan voices deep regret over US veto on Gaza ceasefire resolution

Pakistan

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has expressed deep regret over United States veto on a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel’s war on the besieged Gaza.

At the same time, Ambassador Munir AKram, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, commended and endorsed the resolution brought forward by the 10 elected members ( E-10) of the 15-member Council.

The resolution was put forth by 10 nonpermanent members of the Security Council: Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Switzerland.

With more than 43,000 Palestinians in Gaza killed, the threat of famine, especially in the north, and no sign of an end to the war, the Council’s 10 elected members decided to focus first on a cease-fire.

“We deeply regret that even now a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire has been vetoed by the sole negative vote of a permanent member of the Council,” Ambassador Munir Akram.

The U.N. Security Council voted 14-1 in favour of the resolution sponsored by the 10 elected members on the 15-member council, but it was not adopted because of the U.S. veto.
