Yasmin Rashid, others indicted in arson case

LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) charged Yasmin Rashid, Mehmood ur Rasheed and Ejaz Chaudhary in the violence and arson case.

In the Anti-Terrorism Court of Lahore, a hearing was held against Yasmeen Rashid and others in the arson case filed in Shadman Town police station, in which the court indicted Yasmin Rashid and other accused.

The court also indicted Mian Mehmood-ul-Rashid and Ejaz Chaudhry, who were named in the case, and summoned the witnesses for the next hearing.

The court also ordered the jail trial of the accused.

It should be noted that Sarwar Road Police Station and Shadman Police have registered cases against the accused.

SHC upholds stay-order ordering uninterrupted internet access till elections

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court(SHC) has upheld the stay order to continue uninterrupted internet and mobile phone services across the country until the general elections.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi heard the petition against the repeated shutdown and interruption of internet service in the country, during which the court expressed its annoyance over the shutdown and interruption of internet service.

The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court said that if our internet does not work, what will work elsewhere, it seems that it will be fixed after the election.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till February 21 due to the absence of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s counsel and the court has ordered to maintain the stay order regarding uninterrupted restoration of internet service across the country.

The court has also maintained the order to continue the mobile internet service without interruption.

PS-110’s independent candidate and rights activist Advocate Jibran Nasir had filed the petition in the SHC against the frequent suspension of internet services in the country ahead of the general elections.

RAWALPINDI: The security forces gunned down a terrorist ring leader alongwith his accomplice during an intense exchange of fire ensued amid an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in the North Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces, on the night of February 5 and 6, the operation was conducted in North Waziristan District, on reported presence of terrorists.

The terrorist ring leader killed during the heavy exchange of fire between the army troops and the terrorists was identified as Ayubullah alias Mansoor.

However, weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the killed terrorists who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities including target killing as well as extortion and abduction of innocent civilians.

Addressing a press conference along with Minister for Interior Dr. Gohar Ijaz he said that last year on August 17, 2023, after oath-taking of the caretaker cabinet, he had committed in a press conference that the caretaker government would provide all possible assistance to the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct free and fair elections.

He said that rumour-mongers’ claims, that elections would not be held on one or the other pretext and caretaker setup would linger on, had proven wrong.

The minister said that the Ministry of Information yesterday had launched an online media helpline for the convenience of local and foreign journalists during the elections. He said that the Pakistani nation had been fighting the scourge of terrorism for decades and between 2008 and 2013 law and order situation was not good.

The 2008 elections had to be postponed for one month following the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto.
