ISLAMABAD: Poliovirus has been confirmed in the environmental samples of six more districts of Pakistan.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination, poliovirus was found in four samples from Karachi and two from Chaman, one sample each from Peshawar, Kohat, and Nowshera.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Health said that the polio virus belongs to the YB2A virus cluster in Afghanistan.
Caretaker Federal Minister of Health Dr. Nadeem Jan said that every child is at risk due to the presence of the polio virus and this virus can make children under 5 years of age disabled for life. He said there is no cure for polio and only a vaccine for children provides protection.
Dr. Nadeem Jan appealed to the parents to welcome the polio workers who come to their homes, to give their children polio shots to protect them from life-long disability.
