President calls for holding regular senates meetings of universities

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi stressed upon the need of holding of regular meetings of senates of universities for timely decision making.

He also directed for immediate filling of vacant posts of senate members in different universities. The president chaired the 6th meeting of the Senate of the COMSATS University Islamabad, at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The meeting was attended by executive director COMSATS, secretaries of ministries of IT and federal education and senate members. He further observed that universities should also commence timely process for recruitment on teaching and administrative vacancies, besides establishing new departments while keeping in view needs of the market. Prior to starting of teaching in new departments, an inquisitive analysis of the requirements of the markets should be made, he opined, adding that universities should impart education and skills to their students in conformity with the needs of the market.

The president reiterated that while comparing with other countries of the region, the number of students seeking admissions in universities in Pakistan was very low and emphasized upon the universities to utilize online education system for increasing numbers of qualified graduates.

He also advised that universities should explore new avenues for generating their financial resources whereas for the research grants, they should seek assistance from professionals.

KARACHI: A passenger died of cardiac arrest on a flight from Muscat to Islamabad, due to which the foreign aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport Karachi.

A passenger suffered a heart attack on a foreign airline flight from Muscat to Islamabad. The captain immediately made an emergency landing at Karachi Airport.

Ambulance and paramedical staff were called at Karachi Airport, airport sources said that the doctors checked the patient and the passenger had already died.

The deceased passenger was named Besharat and was from Bagh Azad Jammu Kashmir. The body of the passenger was handed over to the Karachi Airport staff.

On the other hand, in the flight of a foreign airline from Karachi to Istanbul, a technical problem occurred in the plane, upon which the captain contacted the air traffic controller and made an emergency landing at Karachi airport.

KARACHI: The local court of Karachi approved the bail of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Haleem Adil Sheikh in the case of an attempt to assist an arrested individual in escaping police custody.

Judicial Magistrate South of Karachi heard the bail application of Haleem Adil Sheikh in the case of trying to escape the accused under custody.

During the hearing, the police stated that Haleem Adil had tried to make Hassan Niazi escape from police custody.

After a short hearing, the court granted bail to Haleem Adil against a surety bond of Rs 50,000.

However, the case against Haleem Adil Shaikh for allegedly setting fire to the police mobile in the Mobina Town police station is still pending, as he has not been granted bail.
