PM announces to auction all Toshakhana gifts to support orphans

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced to auction all of the gifts worth millions of rupees at Toshakhana and the revenue would be spent for the welfare of orphan children.

“I announce to auction all of the gifts worth millions or rupees at Toshakhana. But whole of the receipts will go nowhere else but the institutions of the orphan children whether they are welfare organizations, educational institutions or medical facilities. We will hand them over under a mechanism to support the orphans who are unable to face the challenges of life,” the prime minister said talking to a delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), and Pakistan Broadcasters Association PBA).

The prime minister said that he felt honoured to announce the auction of Toshakhana gifts before the representatives of APNS, CPNE and PBA.

He told the media industry representatives that the incumbent government inherited very tough economic conditions but the coalition parties did not imagine the severity of the situation.

The prime minister said the previous government wasted last four years in mere victimisation of political opponents and also strained ties with friendly countries.

He said his government had tried its utmost to rectify the relations with friendly countries and had been able to control the damage to a great extent which also led to the signing of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

SUKKUR: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inaugurated Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation(SIUT) Medical Complex Sukkur.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari conveyed his gratitude to Dr. Adib Rizvi and lauded the monumental achievement of the SIUT health network. He assured the audience of his government’s unwavering support and cooperation in further enhancing the healthcare infrastructure across the region.

SIUT, the largest centre of excellence in Urology, Transplant, Nephrology and cancer diseases in the region has added a new milestone in SIUT’s philosophy of providing quality medical treatment free with dignity and compassion, irrespective of caste, color, creed, and religious belief.

The solemn ceremony, witnessed the gathering of government dignitaries, political leaders, medical professionals, SIUT staff members and general population, all united in their commitment to advancing medical services and uplifting the well-being of the citizens.

Dr. Adib Rizvi, Director SIUT, welcoming the guests said that Pakistan is a low income country where 50% of the population lives in rural setting, much below the poverty line, disfranchised from tertiary healthcare facilities.

He stated that a decade ago, SIUT established Chhablani Medical Centre in Sukkur with the help of the Sindh Government and this newly established medical complex is another step forward to the concept of government and community partnership, extending free medical care to the population at large.

Along with nephrology including dialysis, urology and transplantation, SIUT has further added cancer diagnostic and treatment facility reinforcing SIUT’s vision to take the facilities to the doorsteps of the patients creating in Centers at Sukkur, Larkana and Nawabshah.

Dr Rizvi said that we are grateful to the Sindh government for establishing this center and a large number of people have helped along the way. He thanked Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah for his unending support right from the beginning of the project.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, took the opportunity to share his vision for the healthcare sector. He detailed his priorities in ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare services for all citizens.

KU constitutes committee for establishment of Medical College

KARACHI: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi constituted a committee for the establishment of the KU Medical College.

The KU Medical College committee comprised of the Convener Prof Dr Faiyaz H. M. Vaid, KU Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof Dr Fareeda Islam, Prof Dr Iqbal Azhar, Prof Dr Basit Ansari, Dr Akmal Waheed, Prof Dr Farhat Hussain Jaffery from Karachi Medical and Dental College.

The committee would submit the legal formalities and requirements necessary for the establishment of the KU Medical College to the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi. He mentioned that the KU is in contact with various philanthropists and organizations for the establishment of its hospital as we want to start and complete this project at the earliest.

The KU VC Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi was addressing the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony. The KU and the National Institute of Kidney and Urological Diseases Hospital, a project of the Kidney Foundation, signed MoU at the VC Secretariat to provide medical-related services which include emergency, cardiac, diagnostic, outpatient department, and radiological services to the KU faculty, employees and staff and their families.

The KU VC ProfDr Khalid Iraqi informed the participants of the meeting that the KU is going to announce the admission to the faculty of medicines next academic year. “The medical classes will be conducted on the campus while different hospitals will collaborate to fulfill other requirements necessary for the completion of the medical degree until the KU establishes its hospital.

He shared that recently renowned social worker and philanthropist Dr Nadira Panjwani had also assured to help the University’s administration in building a hospital on the campus.

The KU Senior Medical Officer Dr Wafa Altaf and the Director/Chief Executive Office of The Kidney Foundation Dr Sakina Batool Naqvi inked the MoU documents.
