LAHORE: Punjab government has decided to generate energy from the solid waste by taking a big step toward solving the energy crisis.
Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has approved the production of energy from solid waste in Lahore.
In this regard, the Norwegian company has expressed interest and offered to generate 55 megawatts of electricity from 1200 tons of solid waste per day.
The Norwegian company will initially invest 250 million dollars, on which the Punjab Chief Minister said that the energy obtained from solid waste will be given to industries in Sundar Industrial Estate.
In this regard, Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was given a detailed briefing on the Waste to Energy Project by the representative of the Norwegian company, Carl Fredrik Sam.
It was told that there are 40 million tons of solid waste in Lahore, while 5,000 tons of garbage are being collected daily.
