ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the appointment of Army Chief is expected to be finalized by tomorrow (Thursday) and the legal process is ongoing on the summary.
Talking to the media after meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the President and Prime Minister should take decisions according to the constitution. He said the summary of the four names never came and adding the appointment will end the uncertainty.
He further said appointments will be decided to keep in mind the law and regulations.
Replaying a question from a journalist, Khawaja Asif said “I am not aware of who will be appointed as the names will be finalized by tomorrow.” He said allied parties and the cabinet will also be taken into confidence in the decision.
The journalist asked that the method of appointment is listed in Article 243, and the Defence Minister replied “I don’t know about so many articles.” He said the president and prime minister should decide under the Constitution in the national interest.
