ECP decides to hold by-elections as per schedule

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday held an emergency meeting over terror threats during elections and decided the by-elections will be held as per the schedule, BOL News reported.

According to the details, during the ECP meeting, a special report sent by the Intelligence Agencies was considered. The report by the intelligence agencies mentioned that there is a threat of terrorism during the by-election polling stations. The agencies termed the upcoming elections in the country as a major risk.

Moreover, the report mentioned providing strict security during polling hours because of the terrorism threat.

In the report, conducting the elections by deploying only police personnel alone was declared insufficient.

Political personalities may be targeted in the coming days in Punjab whereas at present the political tension is also on the rise and the activists of the different parties are more emotional.

The letter says that it is not possible for the police alone to maintain the law and situation during the elections, adding that the police are also demonstrating partiality in different provinces. Currently, army and paramilitary forces are busy with flood relief operations.

ASTANA: During the plenary proceedings, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, inter alia, made a statement articulating Pakistan’s key priorities and perspectives on a host of issues. Pakistan’s commitment to the principles and purposes of CICA was reaffirmed, according to the Foreign Office.

According to the details, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif participated in the 6th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) held in Astana, Kazakhstan on October 13, 2022, and held important meetings with the regional leaders.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, besides interaction with other leaders.

More than a dozen heads of state and government, Vice Presidents of China and Vietnam, and many ministers participated in the summit, which coincided with the 30th-anniversary celebrations of CICA. Deliberations emphasized the important issues of cooperation, key priorities, and activities of CICA.

A number of decisions and outcome documents, including the Astana Statement on CICA Transformation, were approved during the event.

The CICA Member States also expressed solidarity with the people and Government of Pakistan facing the unprecedented climate-induced floods and called for supporting Pakistan’s ongoing efforts for relief assistance and the subsequent phase of rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Participation in the CICA Summit provided an important opportunity to present Pakistan’s point of view on important national, regional, and global issues.

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar held a meeting with the Deputy Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and apprised him about the losses caused by the flood in the country.

The Ministry of Finance has issued a statement about the visit of Senator Ishaq Dar to America.

Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF  and  apprised the IMF official about the extraordinary losses caused by the floods.

In the statement, it was said that a briefing was given regarding the government’s measures to stabilize, sustain and restore the economy. The Deputy Managing Director of the IMF also praised the government’s measures to restore the economy.

On the other hand, the statement said that the Finance Minister also met with the President of the World Bank(WB) Mr. David Malpass.

The Finance Minister of Pakistan thanked the Bank for its continuous support in socio-economic development. He lauded the World Bank for helping in rescue and relief operations after the unprecedented devastating floods.
The President of the World Bank said we will work together with Pakistan to overcome the socio-economic challenges caused by the floods.

Ishaq Dar also met the Vice-President of the World Bank for South Asia in which he thanked Vice President Ricer for his visit to Pakistan.

The statement said that the Finance Minister also met the President of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser. He lauded Islamic Development Bank for its continuous relations with Pakistan.
Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan and the Bank have been reliable partners for decades.

President Islamic Development Bank Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser said that Pakistan’s steps to stabilize the economy while providing relief to the flood victims are commendable.

The Ishaq Dar also held meetings with the leadership of Deutsche Bank and J.P Morgan to share the government’s vision to stabilize the economy and provide relief to the flood victims, the statement said.
